Disabling Restore Function


Description for disabling restore function for Windows ME

Files placed in the RESTORE folder are source files for the system restore function that is available in Windows Millennium operating system. Files that were healed were moved in their original INFECTED state into this folder and it is necessary to DELETE them by following these steps:

  1. Close all open programs.

  2. Then right-click My Computer on the Windows desktop

  3. Click on Properties

  4. Click on the Performance tab

  5. Click on File System

  6. Click on the Troubleshooting tab

  7. Check Disable System Restore

Files placed in the System volume information folder are source files for the system restore function that is available in Windows XP operating system. Files that were healed were moved in their original INFECTED state into this folder and it is necessary to DELETE them by following these steps:

  1. Close all open programs.

  2. Then right-click My Computer on the Windows desktop

  3. Click on Properties

  4. Click on the System Restore tab

  5. Check Turn off System Restore on all drives

  6. Restart the system

Go through the first four steps again and uncheck the item mentioned in step 4 to turn System Restore back on.
